Linux: someone spent years planning to add a backdoor and it sort of failed anyway

Mac/iOS: there's a backdoor built in for convenience but it opens only inside so users cant escape

Windows: there's a frontdoor with red carpet and grandma installed aquarium screen saver for additional backdoor

It's ok to not want to federate your server with everyone. It's ok to block things for any reason.

It's ok to curate your experience, be it your account personally or your whole homeserver.

I'd love to set my instance allowlist by default, not blocklist. Or some sort of hybrid: share these posts with allowlist, these with everyone, etc.. Anyway.

It's not ok to expect everyone wants everything to be connected to their system. This is what i am seeing more and more, this weird expectation that you must connect your homeserver to every service ever or you're "not getting the point of fedi."

The beauty of it is that there's no point. There's just posts and people who connect or don't want to connect.

It's quite simple. We need to kill this capitalistic hypergrowth mentality. It doesnt work. It never has.

Granted i havent been here that long, i joined fedi about year before twitter was sold.

But this is how its been and its why it has been working: people here like to curate their experiences.

Twitter tools for such curation was shit, so it made people frustrated and they moved here. Mostly minorities tired of being harassed.

So i read the room and realised the curation part is very important to fedi and will hold that mindset.

I only want to connect with people that even on some level share my values. Proprietary systems are not made with those values in mind so i will avoid them.

is the koolest text editor and people should give it a go :kde:

https://kate-editor.org/

instead of downloading bazillion extensions, you enable/disable plugins you want and then configure it for your use. there's a lot of syntax highlighting files already, but there's also language server support and debug adapter support!

i recommend building it yourself if you can, since it gets updates rather rapidly. :)

regarding LSP configs, you can pretty much take what you see for Neovim for example and "convert" it for Kate.

then, there's also build plugin that lets you write down all the regular build commands you use, and when you click run, it runs things inside a terminal window and you can click on the errors there to jump around.

You can also use the build plugin for executing tests and, well, anything that runs in terminal!

@catraxx kate works pretty much as my IDE :D

what language you need IDE for? i used to use CLion but it was so heavy and bulky and took long time to boot, so Kate + LSP + DAP is IDE enough for me

@mp i really liked neovim but i realised i spend more time on configs than actually writing code...

helix is my favorite terminal editor but it lacks some of the niceties (like filetree) so it's just for quick edits.

@mp i used vscode for who knows how long but wanted to try somethinh else when i moved to linux and kate was just there
